NEW TREND ALERT: Lifestyle Photography for Real Estate
Lifestyle photography for real estate is fast becoming the real estate photography trend of 2017. But what exactly is it, and when should it be used into your professional photography packages?
Lifestyle photography for real estate is when your property photographer moves beyond their normal shots and allow viewers to look at the home through a different ‘lens’ (I just love those photography puns). Lifestyle photos are pretty much the bridge between professional real estate photography and property films. These photos help to build that all too important emotional connection with the property. They invite buyers to think about themselves living the lifestyle that the home (and area) has to offer.
Think about your normal 10 photo shoot. The property photographer may choose to have a picture of the front of the home. Then they may usually get the backyard, kitchen, three bedrooms, living and dining room. They might throw in throw in a study, pool and/or rumpus room shot. There is no denying that these photos are important to help the buyer tick boxes. For example, “Yes, there are three bedrooms – one for each child” or “No, this property requires too much work”. However, these photos may not help buyers or tenants understand what it will be like to live in the area. Furthermore, they do not show how buyers may choose to spend their free time at the home.
Think ‘magazine spread’. A crackling fireplace. Champagne on the deck. A twilight soak in the spa. Or maybe you would prefer showing the community lifestyle. Some joggers down at the park across the road. People eating at a nearby cafe or a surfer hitting a wave at the beach. You may be thinking from these descriptions that lifestyle property photography may not be the right choice for every listing. And you would be right. Sure, every property has something to love about it, but not every property is selling a lifestyle.
You may think about using lifestyle real estate photography if you:
-Want to try a new way to make your photos stand out
-Are working in the high end property market, or have listed a property with great views or that is close to places of interest
-If you simply like the look of lifestyle photography and mixing things up.
